I am thankful

I am thankful for Jill who created this site.

I am thankful for all the people on blogforacure who understand all the emotional and physical challenges that come with cancer.

I am thankful that despite the fact that many have suffered far more than I have, they understand and are compassionate enough to support me and their other fellow travelers on this journey.

In all my years I have never found anything that speaks to me more than "A Confederate Soldier's Prayer"

Just before burying him on the field, the grave-diggers made the usual search of the body. Inside the shirt pocket was a sheet of paper. On it this common soldier a day or so earlier had scrawled some thoughts. They were a statement of what life meant to him. As such, the words are an everlasting testimonial to one simple human being.

   The soldier wrote:

I asked God for strength, that I might achieve.

I was made weak, that I might learn humbly how to obey.

I asked for health, that I might do greater things.

I was given infirmity, that I might do better things.

I asked for riches, that I might be happy.

I was given poverty, that I might be wise.

I asked for power, that I might have the praise of men.

I was given weakness, that I might feel the need of God.

I asked for all things, that I might enjoy life.

I was given life, that I might enjoy all things.

I got nothing that I asked for – but everything I had hoped for.

Almost despite myself, my unspoken prayers were answered.

I am, among all men, most richly blessed.

That’s a beautiful prayer, I never heard of it, brings tears to your eyes. Thank you. Hope you and family had a great Thanksgiving. Joe and I and Blanche were alone this year but it was actually nice, different, though I’d rather Pete and Mom be here. I recently read that thyroid cancer is a tough one to go through, more so than others, because the thyroid is so important for body functions and well being and when it’s off kilter, it’s brutal. They only experience I have is being hypo after my first chemo in 1991-92 and honestly, I felt like I was a mess but didn’t know why until my TSH came back. So I can’t imagine what thyroid cancer must be like. 😘
